I spent nearly a week at Lisa's house in Vermont. It was completely lovely- They just bought an old farmhouse with barn on 120 acres, and I spent most of my time watching the light move over the mountains from their front porch. Also went down the meadow to splash in their stream, and helped make the swimming hole dam a little more secure. It gives me something to aspire to. The barn, Lisa says, sparks different dreams for everyone. I am lobbying for a birthing center/childbirth education classroom. Others have suggested pottery/art/carpentry studios, stalls for a cow and sheep, the list goes on and on. Someday, maybe, if I work my ass off in the intervening time period.
A lot of classmates and signif. others went up there for the weekend, and it was nice to reconnect with them all again, although I kept sort of quiet about my clinical time, after recounting my twins story- very few people had a good experience, so I didn't want to sound like I was bragging. We actually got a fair amount of studying done, but there's SO much left to do- that's my plan for the next week or so- seclude myself in Noho and split my days between the library, the pool/gym, and petting my cat.
Yesterday rebecca and I drove all 6 hours down to NYC in my mother's car with no A/C - it was 100 degrees the whole way down I-91, and we sweated and suffered. Once in the city, I actually found a parking spot just around the corner from my building, picked up my apartment keys, made sure that the tenant took out the trash when she left, washed my sheets and towel and rearranged my bedroom furniture.
It's very exciting to have a room big enough for more than one furniture arrangement. I've missed my lovely bed all summer too- had a lovely sleep last night, and was relieved to see that my mom's car survived the night unscathed. Unfortunately, the financial aid guy's office was locked and dark this am, so I'll be racking up the credit card bills for a while longer.
Perused midwifejobs.com. Looks as though the majority of listings are still in Georgia or Florida. There was one interesting Indian Health Services job but it started in October, and I don't think I can swing that- still have credits to finish here, etc. I need to start formulating cover letters and polishing my resume.
Now, off to unload my winter clothes from the car into the apartment and then hit the hot road up north. Have to be gone by 11:30, when the street sweeper comes by.
